Here is Peru’s final 23-man roster and each player’s club team:

Goalkeepers: Pedro Gallese (Juan Aurich), Diego Penny (Sporting Cristal), Carlos Caceda (Universitario)

Defenders: Christian Ramos (Juan Aurich), Miguel Arajuo (Alianza Lima), Luis Abram (Sporting Cristal), Yoshimar Yotun (Malmo), Alberto Rodriguez (Sporting Cristal), Aldo Corzo (Deportivo Municipal), Jair Cespedes (Sporting Cristal), Miguel Trauco (Universitario)

Midfielders: Armando Alfageme (Deportivo Municipal), Adan Balbin (Universitario), Christian Cueva (Toluca), Renato Tapia (Feyenoord), Oscar Vilchez (Alianza Lima), Luiz da Silva (Jong PSV), Alejandro Hohberg (Universidad Cesar Vallejo), Cristian Benavente (Charleroi)

Attackers: Paolo Guerrero (Flamengo), Raul Ruidiaz (Universitario), Andy Polo (Universitario), Edison Flores (Universitario)

The Skinny: Like Brazil and Ecuador in their group, Peru are heading in to the Copa America without some known names up front.

Veteran striker Claudio Pizarro and pacey winger Jefferson Farfan were left off the roster sheet by manager Ricardo Gareca. Gareca’s side will feature a heavy domestic presence, with only six of the 23 men on the team playing outside of Peru. Of those six, the most crucial player could be Flamengo striker Paolo Guerrero, who scored four goals in last summer’s surprise run to third place in the Copa America.

Joining Guerrero in the US are five players from Peruvian side Sporting Cristal, and six from Universitario. Gareca will have to hope that choosing teammates will help the players perform better because the road out of the group will be tough for Peru without their two star men.

Even in Group B, Peru could struggle. They should be able to take on Haiti comfortably, but Ecuador have been in fine form and Brazil simply outclass them on the pitch. As they showed everyone last year, Peru have it in them to perform at a level higher than what people expect of them, but their competitors know that as well now, and will not take them lightly. They will have a very hard time doing much at the Copa America this year.

Key Performers: Paolo Guerrero, Christian Cueva, Yoshimar Yotun

Predicted Finish in Group B: Third Place

Peru will need strong performances from striker Paolo Guerrero to make any noise at the Copa America
